How to build a panel
WherePanel and circuitstab
Entry: the Panel and circuits card at the top of the Electrics section → , the Open button. While there is no panel, the card has a Build button: the appliances will be spread across circuits and the panel will be built. Below is Housings for the plan: panel enclosures for the plan.
Steps
- The panel is built automatically by circuits: the first row is Incoming: the incoming breaker, a voltage relay, a fire-protection RCD (type S); from the second row, circuit RCDs with their MCBs, RCBOs, three-phase ones.
- Above the panel set Slots per rail (12, 18, 24) and Rows. There you can also see how many slots are taken, and the reserve for future lines (20 % by default, this is not a standard). If a better enclosure can be chosen, a button like Enclosure 2 × 18 will appear.
- Add devices from the catalog on the left: a click places the device in the first row with a free slot, and you can drag it to the place you want in any row.
- Click a device, and its properties open on the right. The ← and → arrows swap it with its neighbor in the row.
- For a device set Fed from: by order — through RCD #… (an MCB right after an RCD is fed through it), from the busbar or through RCD #…. With the mouse: click the top screw of the MCB, then the bottom screw of the RCD or incoming device you need. Neutral moves along with the supply.
Wires, screws, comb busbar
- Wires and jumpers are built automatically. Core colors per GOST: L1 brown, L2 black, L3 grey, N blue, PE yellow-green.
- Click a wire or a screw, and the wire will be highlighted, and at the bottom you will see where it comes from and where it goes. A screw without a wire has an orange ring.
- The comb busbar (a dark strip above the top screws) connects neighboring MCBs of the same supply; while it is in place, the MCB cannot be moved. You can detach it in the properties, the Busbar row.
- Neutral busbar and Earth busbar from the catalog replace the bottom busbars. The catalog also has AFDD with MCB (arc fault protection), 1P+N (a circuit device, like an RCBO) and Changeover switch I-0-II, 2-pole (for the incoming line, like an ATS).
What is important to know
- If a circuit under an RCD takes neutral from the common busbar, a red chip will appear above the panel: the RCD will trip falsely. Put a separate Neutral busbar for the circuit.
- Type S (selective) is available for RCDs: in front of the circuit RCDs and RCBOs exactly this type is needed.
- For a circuit device, the rating, characteristic, name and cable belong to the circuit: an edit is visible both in Circuits and in Diagram.
- Under the panel there is a composition table: QF, device, current, leakage, line, cable (not set in orange).
