How to run a vent duct, chimney or riser through floors and take it out above the roof

Steps

  1. Place the ventilation duct, chimney or riser on the lowest floor, where it starts.
  2. In the properties window, in the Shaft block, choose in the Runs field: Within this floor, To floor … or Above the roof. Above the roof is available for a vent duct, a chimney and a sewer riser.
  3. A chimney is placed right away as Above the roof.

What is important to know

  • There is one shaft for all the floors it passes: it is visible on their plans with the same symbol and moves on any of them. A vent duct and a chimney are subtracted from the area of each floor, risers are not. On the floor above, furniture cannot be placed in the shaft.
  • The outlet height follows SP 7.13130.2013, cl. 5.10, with Amendment No. 3 (in force from 01.07.2025), and depends on the distance to the nearest ridge:
    • closer than 1.5 m: 0.5 m above the ridge;
    • from 1.5 to 3 m: not lower than the ridge;
    • farther than 3 m: not lower than a line going down from the ridge at 10°;
    • above a flat roof: 2.0 m above it (before Amendment No. 3 it was 0.5 m).
    The outlet is kept at least 0.5 m above the roof at the exit point. Vent ducts are taken out the same way as chimneys: this is the accepted practice. The result in the window: Outlet above roof, To the ridge and the rule.
  • If there are several ridges (an L- or T-shaped house): the highest mark is taken. If there is no roof: the top-floor slab is treated as a flat roof.
  • A sewer riser comes out above the roof as a soil vent pipe by 0.2 m, without a cap (SP 30.13330.2020, cl. 18.18). If an openable window or balcony is closer than 4 m horizontally, the riser window will warn you.
